Wanda graduated from Jasper High School as Salutatorian of the Class of 1988 and was awarded the Charles & Susan Gordon Memorial scholarship to Lamar University. In May of 1992, Wanda graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from Lamar University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Accounting.

While still a student at Lamar, Wanda began working part-time for a CPA in the mid-county area and shortly after graduation she went to work full-time for a local public accounting firm. Both of these positions allowed her to obtain valuable experience in tax return preparation, payroll tax return preparation and financial statement preparation. Wanda passed the CPA exam in November of 1993 and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in March of 1994.

In August of 1995, she left public accounting and became the Accounting Manager for the Beaumont District of Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) where she gained valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a large, multi-faceted company. During the spring of 1998 BFI was undergoing a major change in its company structure and requested she transfer to the corporate offices in Houston, but Wanda chose to resign her position at BFI in order to keep her family in Beaumont.

On June 15, 1998, Wanda went to work at (then) Wathen, DeShong & Company and has gained a wide range of experience during her twenty years with the firm. She is currently a senior staff accountant at the firm, a member of both the American Institute of CPAs & the Texas Society of CPAs and volunteers in her community through various church and civic organizations.

Wanda and her husband, Allen, will celebrate their 30th Anniversary in December of 2018. Allen is a Professional Engineer and Vice President of LJA Engineering (formerly Carroll & Blackman, Inc.). They have two sons, Caleb & Jacob. Caleb graduated from East Chambers High School as the Salutatorian of the Class of 2014 and is currently a senior at The University of Texas in Austin scheduled to graduate in May of 2018. Jacob graduated from East Chambers High School as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2015 and graduated with high honors (Magna Cum Laude) in December of 2017 from Texas A&M University in College Station. Jacob recently started law school.
