Wanda graduated from Jasper High School as Salutatorian of the Class of 1988.  She was awarded the Charles & Susan Gordon Memorial four year scholarship to Lamar University.  In May of 1992, Wanda graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from Lamar University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Accounting.

While still a student at Lamar University, Wanda began working part-time for a CPA in the mid-county area.  Then shortly after graduation, Wanda went to work full-time for a local public accounting firm.  Both of these positions allowed Wanda to obtain valuable experience in tax return preparation, payroll tax return preparation and financial statement preparation.  Wanda passed her CPA exam in November of 1993 and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in March of 1994.  In August of 1995, Wanda left public accounting and became the Accounting Manager for the Beaumont District of Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI).  While at BFI, Wanda gained valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a large, multi-faceted company.  During the spring of 1998, BFI was undergoing a major change in its company structure and asked Wanda to transfer to the corporate offices in Houston and assume a position as a regional supervisor.  Rather than take the transfer, Wanda chose to resign her position at BFI and keep her family in Beaumont.  On June 15, 1998, Wanda went to work at (then) Wathen, DeShong & Company and has gained a wide range of experience during her twelve years with the firm.  Wanda is currently a senior staff accountant at the firm.

Wanda is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Texas Society of CPAs.  She volunteers in her community through various church and civic organizations.  Wanda previously served as a board member for the East Chambers Youth Football League and is currently serving on the East Chambers Junior High Campus Advisory Committee.

Wanda was born and raised in Jasper, Texas.  She moved to Beaumont in August of 1988 to attend Lamar University.  In December of 1988, she married Allen Sims (Jasper High School Class of 1987) and he transferred from McNeese State University to Lamar University to continue his pursuit of a degree in Civil Engineering.  Allen & Wanda both graduated from Lamar University in May of 1992.  They decided to remain in Beaumont, where Allen was already working for the local civil engineering consulting firm of Carroll & Blackman, Inc.  In August of 2010, Allen celebrated his 20th anniversary with Carroll & Blackman, Inc., where he has been an owner since 2000.  Allen & Wanda moved to Winnie in November of 2005 to give their two sons, Caleb & Jacob, the enjoyment of rural living that they had both grown up with in Jasper.  Caleb is in the 9th grade at East Chambers High School, where he serves on the Student Council as Vice-President of the Freshmen Class.  Jacob is in the 8th grade at East Chambers Junior High School, where he serves as President of the National Junior Honor Society.

Wanda is currently serving Wathen, DeShong & Juncker in the following capacities:
