While at Lamar, she was active in both the Accounting Society and Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Fraternity. Wanda was also recognized for academic excellence with membership in both Beta Gamma Sigma (honor society for collegiate schools of business) and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.

While still a student at Lamar, Wanda began her career in accounting by working part-time for a CPA in the mid-county area and shortly after graduation she went to work full-time for a local public accounting firm. Wanda passed the CPA exam in November 1993 and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in March 1994.

In August 1995, Wanda left public accounting and became the Accounting Manager for the Beaumont District of Browning-Ferris Industries (BFI) where she gained valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a large, multi-faceted company. During the spring of 1998 BFI was undergoing a major change in its company structure and requested she transfer to the corporate offices in Houston, but Wanda chose to resign her position at BFI and keep her family in Beaumont.

Wanda began working at Wathen, DeShong & Juncker in June 1998 and has gained a wide range of experience during her twenty plus years with the firm. She is currently a senior staff accountant specializing in estates and trusts. Wanda is a member of both the American Institute of CPAs & the Texas Society of CPAs and volunteers in the community through various church and civic organizations.

Natives of Jasper, Wanda and her husband, Allen, celebrated their 30th anniversary in December 2018 and currently live in Port Neches. They have raised two sons, Caleb & Jacob, of whom they are very proud. Caleb & his wife Cindy are both graduates of the University of Texas and currently live just outside of Austin.
